Step 2: Set Up a Volunteer Period

If you are applying for an apprenticeship, we ask that you come and spend 1 week with us to work with apprentices on community projects. By working full days with apprentices for this time, you can decide if the community is right for you, and we will be better able to evaluate you as an applicant. We understand that setting aside a week from your busy schedule to visit the Shop can be difficult–please contact us to discuss different options.

You may also use an internship as your volunteer period if you can’t wait to start building. We will call you to set up your volunteer time or internship.

Step 3: Admission

Once an applicant has completed the volunteer period, we discuss candidacy as a community. After discussion, apprentices and staff vote on whether or not the volunteer should be admitted to the program. We will send you a response soon after the vote.

Step 4: Holding Your Spot

If you are accepted and would like to become an apprentice, we ask for a 10% deposit to hold your spot. If we do not receive this deposit, you are still offered an apprenticeship for the year in consideration, but other applicants who send in their deposit may fill the program.

Internship (Independent & Cooperative)

Step 1: Complete the Internship Application Paperwork

Download the Shop application here, Apprentice Application 2012 1, complete the form and send it back to us. **

** Be sure to indicate that you are applying for an internship.

Step 2: Schedule Your Internship

If your internship is approved, we will call you to schedule your time with us. Internships run for twelve weeks. Winter interns start the first week of January; summer interns start the first week of April; and the fall interns start the last week of September.

Step 3: Holding Your Spot

In order to schedule our Shop space and plan for materials and instruction, upon acceptance into the program, we ask for a 10% tuition deposit to hold your spot. If we do not receive this deposit, other applicants who do send in their deposit may fill the program.
