The Apprenticeshop invites rowers, paddlers, and all who love getting out the water to participate in our long-standing Short Ships Regatta, Saturday, September 27th, 2025!

Many thanks to our friends at Shaw & Tenney, makers of fine, handcrafted paddles and oars in Maine since 1858, for sponsoring this event!



Morning Event: 3 Mile Race - open to singles/teams! Bring your skiffs, shells, kayaks, or any human-powered vessel under 100 feet and get ready to compete.


Afternoon Event: Stern Sculling Tournament -
AShop-built Carney 8’ Prams provided.


Whether you’re solo or with a crew, this race is all about sportsmanship, fun, and a healthy dose of competition! This event is FREE to participate and open to rowers and paddlers of all abilities. Youth ages 8 and up are invited to participate, must accompanied by an adult. Life jackets are required for all to participate and are available at the event to borrow.

This event is BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) for the rowing race. Dock and trailer space is available on a limited, first come, first serve basis. Please specify the type and length of your vessel upon registering. Participants are permitted to launch personal vessels as early at 9:00AM on September 26th. Contact the Main Office at 207-594-1800 to make arrangements for your boat and/or trailer.
