Support our mission.

Whether learning to sail in the Penobscot Bay or fairing a hull in the shop, our programs offer unique and transformative educational opportunities. We engage students with the physical world in meaningful ways that build skill, independence, confidence, and resilience. With centuries of maritime history as precedent for what is possible, students are encouraged to push themselves to new levels of achievement. In the process, beautiful boats and able sailors are built, along with a deeper sense of personal empowerment.

We are so thankful that you share a commitment to this work—we could not do it without you.

SPRING 2026

Dear Friend,

Spring is a season of new growth all around. At the Apprenticeshop growth shows up in a High School sailor’s enthusiasm to practice out on Rockland Harbor before anyone else has the nerve. Growth occurs when an apprentice focuses deeply on chiseling a notch in a white oak transom, readying it to receive a keelson. Growth happens when a young sailor takes the helm of a Carney 8’ Pram and finds their way across the wind.

Challenging experiences are fundamental to growth, and we believe that the challenges provided by traditional boatbuilding and seamanship are unparalleled. Working with our hands to coax a boat to life from raw materials, collaborating with a crew to navigate towards a destination—we’re committed to transformation wrought from engaging with the natural world and with each other.

Your donation to our annual fund makes this all possible!

Our annual fund covers more than half of what it takes to run operations. Every year, we invest your generous support into our own growth—into our capacity to offer the best possible programs, in the shop and on the water.  Because of your support last year, we were able to invest in new staff, in our facility, and in our fleet.

To continue this upward trajectory, we need your support. Each year, our annual fund is built from the ground up, and in 2026, we’re raising $650,000. Every single gift counts—no matter the size.

We’re on our way. Will you join us? Make a donation today!
